Happy Anniversary!

photo 2You didn’t really think you’d get away without reading about healthy habits to adopt in 2015? Even if we already know what’s good for us, it can still be helpful to review some of “the basics” about healthy foods. If your 2015 list is already overwhelmingly long, do me a favor and add just this one new year’s resolution: Eat more produce! Come and cook with us! Continue reading “Happy Anniversary!”

Chickpeas to Ring in the New Year

_DSC0528Happy New Year. We are thrilled to have you back and are looking forward to yet another fabulous year together. The holidays reinforced my belief that we feel better and happier when we eat good, clean and fresh foods, ideally in good company. There is no silver bullet when it comes to eating well. Our decisions should be driven by the signals our bodies send us after eating certain foods. Not feeling bloated, tired, stuffed or generally depressed is worth the extra effort that it takes to be smart about what we eat. For me, it’s the year of simple food, of slow food, and yes, also of baking good sourdough bread. And with today’s post, we are off to a great start. Here’s to 2015, together. Come and cook with us. It’s Back-to-School Night: Let’s Eat Clean

photo 4If you have kids, you’ve probably been to a few Back-to-School events to kick off the scholastic year with a guide on what’s ahead. Well, why not take this week to review what we consider our best practices in the world of food shopping, cooking and eating. We’ve heard it all before, but it’s just good to bring to mind what we already know before we forge ahead into another year of over scheduled feeding frenzy. To borrow a widely-used and very intuitive headline for this exercise, let’s call it our Clean Eating Best Practices. Clean, because when it comes to food, our bodies can only be as clean as the foods we feed them! Come and cook with us! Continue reading “It’s Back-to-School Night: Let’s Eat Clean”

Fed Up with Your Food?

photo 13It sure seems as if we can’t agree on what food is best for us. Maybe that is because those in charge of formulating the messages we hear the loudest follow an agenda that is not aligned with what’s best for our health in the long run. The main problem is that fresh produce doesn’t come with a marketing budget, or a healthy profit margin. And whether we want to admit it or not, advertising works and if it’s true that 98% of food related ads that children view (3920/year) are for products high in fat, sugar and sodium, how can an apple ever have a chance! We are constantly bombarded by the media with information on junk science, fad diets and food industry propaganda. So what is one to do? Come and cook with us! Continue reading “Fed Up with Your Food?”

Winter Vegetable Wonder Land

photo 4We want to kick off this week with a congratulatory shout-out to Holly, the winner of our anniversary contest from last week. Holly has been a long-time follower of our site and her loyalty paid off with a quick response to our post. Holly, your gift is in the mail! Thanks to everyone for participating. While researching the list of questions, we realized how much information we have packed into our weekly posts throughout the last years and decided to include more links to our past writing so that we can rediscover them together. One way will be to link to posts published during the same week one, two and three years ago at the bottom of the post. Understanding that we are all bombarded with information, maybe one or another of the titles will spark your interest and you’ll find the time to explore. Come and cook with us!
