It’s common sense. Children learn by imitation. And because of this they eat what we eat (or what they see people around them eating or avoiding). With that in mind, let me tell you about my oldest son’s most favorite dish: Pappa al Pomodoro. It is a dish he watched his father eat every Saturday at the little Italian restaurant in our neighborhood, and it is one that has become near and dear to his heart. If it were up to him we’d be eating the Pappa (a.k.a. tomato soup) for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Thankfully the rest of the family is happy to go along with his wishes. But it wasn’t always the case… Continue reading “Pappa al Pomodoro”

The good lessons we have learned along the way
Welcome to 2012.
Jessica and I have been traveling during the holidays, soaking up the sun, catching up with friends and family, and searching for new ideas to share with you. And new ideas we have! But first, some business: while this time of year is often dedicated to resolutions meant to make you more successful, healthier and happier, we’ve decided, instead, to put forth a challenge to you, dear reader. We believe that if you eat well, you are healthier and happier. Come and cook with us! Continue reading “Welcome to 2012.”
Surviving Holiday Cheer
We’ve reached the halfway point of the holiday season of 2011 and if your December has been anything like mine, New Year’s (with all of it’s resolutions) can’t come soon enough. I’ve got nothing against reindeers, eggnog, and cheer, but this time of year always brings out the glutton in me and this year is no exception. So today, in place of the chocolate post we’d planned, I’ve created a list of simple ways to stay healthy in the holidays. Come and celebrate with us! Continue reading “Surviving Holiday Cheer”

Jessica and I hope that while you read our posts for meal inspiration, you are also keen to receive a few tips on why it is important to eat fresh and healthy foods. We are keen to share this information, and we encourage you to pass it along. Today, we’d like to tell you a bit about why what you drink is as important as what you eat. And in case we haven’t said it before, water is best. Continue reading “Liquid Gold”
Back to School Night
Welcome back! It’s been a summer to remember with earthquakes, hurricanes, heat waves, and, here on the West Coast, unseasonably cool temperatures. Weather notwithstanding, in the “warm” months we tend to break rules more easily and that’s okay because if not in summer, then when? Kathrin and I have had our share of treats this year (we’ve favored ice cream, wine, and burritos on the go); nevertheless, the ritual of Labor Day puts a fine point on the end of summer and is a great time to regroup on how to eat for the rest of year. This Labor Day Kathrin and I made a pact to commit to one change for the better in our approach to eating. We invite you to join us. Continue reading “Back to School Night”
